Awesome List! thanks for posting.
In my experience the "committee" always tries to have the group meetings and they usually do end up a disaster just like you pointed out. Another kink that was added to that was several of the "committee" members weren't even stakeholders, users, suppliers or customers. Which added nothing but confusion and yet ANOTHER opinion to the large pool of opinions.
Isolating them into individual 'one-on-one' type meetings is definitely an improvement over the large, group setting.

Thank you for putting this set of guidelines together. I have recent experience of working on a website for an organisation where the two main decision-makers were not only ignorant of the internet and its workings, they also demonstrated a degree of fear about the medium i.e. concern that content posted online would lead to lawsuits, criminal activity and create the impression of division in the organisation. None of these were likely. I was fortunate enough to get an influencer who was enthusiastic about the project, although I hadn't thought of it in those terms until I read your post.
I hope this post helps a lot of people working in this area. I will certainly be referring back to it.

Number 5 (experts) and Number 6 (evidence) can be real sticking points with some clients, so I submit number 11: have a good private network for venting: people who listen and can help generate ideas to get clients back on track.
Other than that, thanks for the tip on keeping "why" top of mind.

This is unrelated to the topic at hand, but the styling for the tag above is intensely distracting. I stared at the emphasized "really" under the fourth heading for a few seconds while feeling kinda dumb for wondering why it looked so funny.
Is there anything wrong with the oblique or italicized version of Helvetica?

I think sometimes you also need to lose your ego if you want to see something go forward.
I've know people be blocked by others because those others are threatened and don't want the web bod to shine brighter than them. In those cases, the only way you're going to get your ideas through is to allow the person blocking them to take the credit. It hurts, yes, but sometimes you have to choose between 'no implementation / no credit' or 'implementation / no credit' - it's about the lesser of two evils if 'implementation / credit' isn't an option.
And you can always take back the credit you deserve and put it on your CV when you apply for your next job ;)

Followed this link because we are dealing with larger companies these days. Very good points, especially the one about "Targeting your influencers."
