This is awesome; so helpful! I just started a new blog for a ‘green’ ventilation company http://www.ultimateair.com/. I’m about 30 years behind most of the employees in knowledge and my major concern was generating a constant stream of topics. I have hope!!

Agreed with your thought about keeping a list of ideas available, it keeps *brain food of subjects available especially if you spot ideas on other sites which you feel you could benefit from talking about as well.

Also try using the 'free writing' technique - been using this quite a bit lately and it really works. Find a topic, spend 10-15 minutes and just keep writing - ignore stat details and such that you'll need to look up later. Then leave the article for a few days, take an objective look at it, revise and include the stat details.

Works for me anyways :-)

These are great pointers for generating new content. We recently wrote a series on how to start a business blog (http://blog.cdginteractive.com/my_weblog/2009/11/new-series-how-and-why-to-start-a-company-blog.html) and one of the steps we covered was specifically on content, because it can be such a hurdle.

One trick is to map out an editorial calendar ahead of time, by month or quarter or what have you. Even if you deviate later, it gives you a starter.
