    Hi guys,

I've just launched my personal site, let me know what you think!
    http://www.bensmithett.com/

    A few notes:
    - I work on a Windows PC and have an Android phone, so I have very little idea what it will look like on Apple devices. I did some sneaky testing on an iPad in a shop the other day and had a quick look on an iPhone and a Mac today, but nothing extensive. Let me know if you find any bugs.

    - I haven't even looked at it in IE6 and I don't want to. Surprisingly, IE7/8 seem to handle it ok.

    - It's not a portfolio. I decided that very early on. That said, if I ever have a need for a folio it will be pretty easy to bolt on.

Very nice! Very modern. I love the CSS3 touches too.

Quite good but your links are almost impossible to discern. With the icon list I'd have expected them to be a solid link. When they weren't I thought they might not be links at all, then I found the inline links. So... Yeah. That needs something.

    Hey Doug,

I originally designed that watching/listening/reading section to indeed link through to my Last.fm, Vimeo and [something similar for books] profiles. In that scenario, all of the icons would have been big fat links.

However I got rid of Last.fm in The Great Social Networking Purge of 2010 (I'll blog about it when I get a chance), so the purpose of that section changed to just be a list of my music, video & book "statuses".

There are links in there though (to band & author websites or to the video in question), so do you think it would be more obvious if the :hover style (dotted line under the link) was actually the default?

That's usually what I do. Dotted for default, solid on hover, lighter color dotted on visited.

I'll change it. Just read this article on hover states, I'm completely convinced now. No more ambiguous links!
