Laura, my honest recommendation is start small and see if your investment brings results e.g. you could try one keyword promotion with DoMySEO for 51 month with such budged :-). You may decide in more than 4 years if it worth expanding.

SEO is by definition “gaming” the system. I suspect that Google adjusts their algo to weed out the sites that are faking the system. I had a partner that spent about 75% of our gross on SEO and it didn’t make a bit of difference in 2 years. But redesigning the site moved us to the first page. Go figure.

For anyone considering hiring a SEO company:

Never use the company India Elite. They are a SEO/web site development company. They stole $2300.00 from me and never produced any work. They will not respond to my requests for a refund. Do not deal with them. Avoid them. They also do work under name “cheapestandbest” on Freelancer.com.

It’s a delicate balance between maintaining the usability, yet still providing search-engine friendly content. We’ve all seen the keyword-stuffed sites where the text doesn’t even read coherently and this definitely isn’t the way to go. What’s the point in boosting your search rankings if you drive away all your visitors with unreadable and unusable copy? SEO definitely has its place though, and I would say that to compete for many keyword phrases you’re going to need some degree of on and off-page SEO. Finding the balance is the hard part. As Paul mentioned, getting the gems of content that appeal to your users and encourage visitors en masse is the ultimate panacea, however it can be a bit like panning for gold – for some people they can keep trying but might not actually be able to create the content that’s going to allow them to strike it rich.

some state that seo is trail and error however i can not agree with this. I thnik that with the right stratergey it will alsways work most people just concentrate on rankings but rankings do not always gaurentee traffic. So i think people should bE focusing more on return of investment nit just where they are ranked.

SEO is about trial and error. It will take a long time to learn and be good at it. It is so easy to be manipulated by so called gurus selling $2000 products that are suppose to teach you everything you need to know about seo, lol. Stay away from gurus or experts. Try to learn from real people.

There are a lot of myths regarding SEO techniques. It really makes it hard to determine what needs to be done to get your website ranked. A lot of people give up and higher the so called "experts". I'm willing to bet a lot of them are "snake oil" salesmen.

I believe Seo has many benefits. and being ranked google's first page can help you alot. but you have to focus on your website content first that's what will keep you on the top.
