Hi Glenn,

Please don't misunderstand me. I'm not suggesting that Hybrid is bad and native is the only way. Hybrid has an important role to play especially when you need to keep the cost down.

However, we need to be smart about how we implement hybrid technology. Using HTML5 to pretend your app is native is, I'm afraid, a false economy. Instead, use HTML5 to create something rich and new. Use the tool for what it's good for.

ROI has to be the top consideration going forward. Putting something in the app store is not the license to print money that many assume. *smile*

Decision between HTML5 and native UI should be left to developer. Let the actual user decide if they like
HTML5 based apps or not. I have seen many people suggest not to use HTML5 based Framework.

But on App store or in Google Play you will many successful apps developed using HTML5 based framework. There are way too many HTML5 based apps

Great thoughtful article ! As you said, users have deep emotional attachments to the UIs of their mobile devices. That doesn't mean a business owner's customers are attached to the same mobile device she is -- or that she will own the same type of mobile device a year from now.

Companies that can amortize their cost over 1000s of customers can likely afford to build native apps (even tho this still may not be the best thing to do). Small businesses, whose analytics are showing that less than 10% of their visitors come to their websites via mobile, should probably start with a hybrid app -- that works across all major devices, (generally) has a longer life cycle, and costs a LOT less. This way they can build some experience that proves that either they can or cannot justify the higher expense of native apps.

Business decisions should be about how to address the greatest number of needs of the greatest number of customers for the longest possible time in the most cost-effective way. Unless, of course, one's passion for that iPhone interface is more important than ROI :)
