Boagworld is the personal website of Paul (the Wurzel) Boag who lives in the heart of rural Dorset. He produces a weekly podcast along with Marcus (pop star) Lillington on all things relating to building and running websites.

The thing that disturbed me most at this year’s @media conference was the final panel in which it was announced that the "web standards war was won". I remember saying at the time that this was far from my experience and so was particularly encouraged to read a recent Think Vitamin post.

UK terror legislation hits website owners

Here in the UK new terrorism legislation has just come into force. Normally this is not the kind of thing I would post on. I am not a particularly political animal and this isn't a politics related blog. However, this particular legislation has an impact on websites hosted here in Britain.

Top 100 University web sites

I was pleased to read in the Guardian Online that the University of Brighton (one of the many Higher Education sites I have been involved in) came second in a review of the top one hundred University web sites. However, I then noticed that the University of Portsmouth, which I also designed, came 179th out of 200! Unsurprisingly I found this discrepancy disturbing so decided to look into things more closely.

@Media 2005 was the first Web standards and accessibility conference here in the UK and only the second worldwide. The conference demonstrated a growing commitment to building accessible and standards friendly web sites. So what came out of the conference and why will it affect the way we all build web sites.
