Marcus on Nevermind the Buzzcocks

Published on: January 19, 2008 by Paul Boag

For those of you who don't know Marcus has just appeared on popular music quiz show Nevermind the Buzzcocks. You can now watch his 30 seconds of fame via youtube.

In case you don't want to watch the whole thing you can jump to Marcus bit by going to timestamp 3:40.

Apparently Marcus will now be leaving us to pursue his music career (yeah right!).

That is wrong, funny, but wrong :)

That awesome, well done Marcus. I have never saw you only the pictures that where on the post about you and i noticed you a mile away. The rest looked like bums off the street haha. Good luck with stroking that toad...

My wife informed me that she used to slow dance to that song. I was shocked that she could admit to such behaviour prior to meeting me.

We also both agreed that it has never been so obvious who the famous person was. Marcus had a twinkle in his eye as he excitedly trod the boards once again. In addition, the fact that all the alternatives looked as though they had been collected from the local bikers pub helped us to quickly work out who the undoubted star was.

I've been a fan of Buzzcocks for a number of years and have been listening to the Boagworld podcasts for a number of months now. It's kinda bizarre to have the two come together!!

What's this singularity thing about by the way?

  • Post by Simon Brookes on January 20, 2008 10:01 PM

Not a patch on Stroke the Toad though!

  • Post by Roberto on January 21, 2008 5:34 AM

You know, I couldn't place the band before, I just couldn't remember them at all until I heard the song here.

  • Post by Yaili on January 21, 2008 9:16 AM

I liked to see Marcus :) , but I just didn't understand the concept of that show. What's the goal here, and are those people famous, the ones choosing?

  • Post by Ewan on January 21, 2008 11:47 AM

Haha. I love that show. For those of us who don't have sound enabled on their office computer, can someone please tell me what is said when the camera pans in on marcus? Usually they have some sort of hilarious remark for each person . . .

Hah, nice work Marcus. So, where can I hear some of the mighty Stroke the Toad's music...?

  • Post by stroke the toad on January 21, 2008 5:19 PM

About time my band had a mention on national TV but who is this Marcus Lillington bloke!!?

  • Post by Ian Marriott-Smith on January 22, 2008 12:32 PM

what a coincidence, I was listening to your podcast today, and heard you had been on Buzzcocks, I was in the audience of the very same show - and you're right It does take a long time to film!!
glad to now be able to put a face to the name.

  • Post by Michael Hinds on January 23, 2008 12:55 PM

    @Ewan:

No so hilarious this week, but the 5 names are:

    Hands to Heaven
    Hands that do dishes
    Handie MacDowell
    Handy-Semitic (poor Marcus!)
    Handy Lloyd Webber

He does look a tiny bit more rock-n-roll than the rest :-)

So when do we get to see Paul on youtube? Maybe someone will catch him at SXSW.

  • Post by Eric Wolf on January 23, 2008 7:37 PM

Pop British TV - and I though American TV was bad.
    Save us Marcus, save us.

This was great to see. I can see what Marcus meant, they didn't do a good job matching up. The rest look way older... They also don't look like they were in an 80s pop band, they look like they were roadies for an 80s metal band...

  • Post by Andy on January 24, 2008 9:13 PM

I never realised Marcus was in Breathe. I remember seeing them supporting Belinda Carlisle in about 1988. Off the back of it I went out and bought All That Jazz. Luckily my taste in music and hair styles has improved since the 80's. Good work Marcus.

That must have been really cool for Marcus. Did you get to meet Bill Bailey back stage, I love his material on 'Bewilderness'.

Nevermind the Strokes or Toad the Wet Sprocket... Here's Stroke the Toad!

  • Post by Jennifer on February 26, 2008 10:12 PM

That's pretty funny. The #5 guy looked like David Crosby.

I remember that song from back in the day. Classic!!
