Time to get Healthy

It’s time for me to get healthy and for that I have turned to technology. However, I need your help too. I need to be accountable to you.

A couple of years ago I decided that for the first time in my life I should start taking my health seriously. This came after suffering badly from depression for a number of years.

One of the best things you can do to overcome depression, stress and anxiety is to sleep well, exercise and eat healthily. And for over a year I did all three.

I felt so much better for it but after a long bout of sickness, followed by the Christmas period I lost my motivation and gave up.

I am now at the point where I want to start again. I am finally coming off of my anti-depression medication and so its important I look after myself during this transition.

Improving health through technology

Being a geek my first thought was to solve this problem with technology. After much research I have finally settled on using the Jawbone Up to help me. It tracks my sleep, exercise, walking and diet, so its perfect for my needs.

The Jawbone Up is in my opinion the best health tracking device on the market. However, it can’t motivate me. That is why I need your help.

The one aspect that has been missing is motivation. I have had the Jawbone Up for a month now and it hasn’t made a jot of difference to my behaviour. Hence I come to the point of this post.

Technology can’t provide accountability

One aspect of the Jawbone Up accompanying iOS app is that you can add team mates. The idea is that team mates can see your progress (or lack thereof) and support you in becoming more healthy.

I am therefore asking those of you who are willing to download the app and add me as a team mate. Watch me as I track my health (both physical and mental) and my habits. Encourage me when I am doing well and give me a kick up the backside when I am doing badly.

If you don’t have a Jawbone Up yourself, you may still want to consider getting the app. You can still track exercise, diet and mood even without the hardware.

I cannot recommend Jawbone Up enough

If you want to track how much you move and your sleep pattern then I cannot recommend the hardware enough. Its by far the best option on the market. With no screen or bluetooth this device will run 10 days without charging and is extremely water resistant. You wear it night and day, forgetting it is there all the time tracking data.
