Hello!
I am sure you have heard the phrase “honesty is the best policy”, well I believe it applies as much to user experience design and marketing as anywhere else.

So in this email, I want to be honest with you. I want you to buy stuff from me! I am not very subtle, sorry about that :)

But then, I am sure my motivations don’t come as a surprise. For fear of sounding like a cynic, you never get something for nothing, especially online. I am sharing advice and expertise with you in the hopes that you might be sufficiently interested, to consider hiring me or buying one of my products.

Unfortunately, this transaction of value (in the form of advice) in return for attention is undermined by the person seeking attention.

Undermining the Relationship With Users

Instead of attempting to provide value, they choose to shout at the consumer about various deals and discounts. A discount is not providing value. It is just an incentive to buy.

Alternatively, they pretend to care about the user, but in truth, they fail to deliver any real value. They give just enough away to tempt their audience, but hold the actual value back until they part with cash.

However, in my experience at least, people know when they are being manipulated. People are not stupid, so why do we treat them like it?

So, with that in mind, here is the thing, I was hoping you will consider buying one of three different products. But, I also want to provide you with real value in this email too, which is why for each of the things I want you to consider, I am going to offer you a free alternative that provides as much value as the format allows.

Sound good? Then let’s dive in.

Buy New New Masterclass on Finding Clients

Let’s start with the biggie first. I have released another four-hour masterclass called Finding Clients. If you run an agency or have a freelance business, this course is for you. It will give you a low maintenance way of proactively attracting clients. If that sounds of interest, you can learn more about the class here.

The Free Alternative

However, if you aren’t looking to spend that kind of money right now, I also wrote two blog posts where I outline the process and talk about the pros and cons of other approaches.

Buy My Latest Book Click!

Next up, my new book Click! is now available to buy. In case you don’t know this book makes a business case against dark patterns before going on to suggest more user-centric approaches to encouraging people to take action.

The Free Alternative

At only $39 for the printed version or $19 for the ebook, this one feels like a no-brainer to me. However, if you happen to be a poor student or don’t have the time to wade through a whole book, here are a few posts I have written that inspired the book.

Buy My Mini-Course on Getting Design Approval

Finally, I have decided to start experimenting with shorter format courses as well. My first attempt is a one hour class made up of ten lessons covering the topic of getting design approval. We all know the agony of revision hell, and so in this course, I show you how I avoid it on my design projects.

Now this one is free if you are a Skillshare Premium Subscriber (or want to try their 14-day free trial). However, if you prefer to buy it outright, you can do so on my site for $37.

The Free Alternative

If you don’t want to give your email address to Skillshare or spend money on the subject, then once again I have you covered with a related blog post.

So What Do You Think?

Are you still with me? Impressive! I don’t know if that is a testament to my marketing approach or your patience. Either way, I appreciate you putting up with me pitching my wares.

As you got this far, I would love to know how you feel about me talking about my products and services. Does it annoy you? Do you tolerate it, or don’t you mind at all? Drop me an email to let me know.

Speak to you soon.
